Why roof cleaning matters

A roof you cannot see up close is easy to forget, but it is the first line of defence for your home.

Moss holds moisture against your tiles

A thick moss layer stays damp long after the rain stops. Over winters, trapped water and frost can crack and lift tiles and break down their surface.

It can block gutters and downpipes

Moss and loosened granules wash down into the gutters, where they can clog the run and cause overflow, staining and damp on the walls below.

A tidy roof protects your property

Keeping a roof clear helps spot loose or damaged tiles early, before a small repair turns into a leak or a bigger bill.

Kerb appeal and value

A green, streaky roof makes the whole house look tired. A clean roof lifts the look of the property from the street and is a real plus if you ever sell.

Better than waiting

Moss keeps spreading. Cleaning sooner is usually simpler on the tiles than leaving it until it is thick and deeply rooted.

Fully insured, professional work

Roof work is done by our trained team with the right access equipment, so you do not have to risk ladders or climbing on tiles yourself.

Different tiles, different techniques

There is no one-size-fits-all roof clean. We match the method to your roof.

Rotary surface cleaner (the spinning wheel)

For tougher, hard-wearing tiles we use a rotary cleaner with controlled water pressure. It spins close to the surface so the pressure is spread evenly, lifting moss, algae and dirt in clean, even passes without leaving stripes.

Hand scraping and moss removal tools

Thick moss and lichen are loosened by hand with scraping and brush tools first. This is gentler on older or more delicate tiles, and it means we are not blasting heavy growth with pressure.

Low-pressure soft washing

Some roofs, such as older clay or slate, are best cleaned with low pressure rather than force. A gentle wash with the right cleaning solution loosens growth without damaging the surface of the tile.

The right method for your tiles

Concrete, clay, slate and interlocking tiles all behave differently. We look at your roof first and choose the technique, pressure and tools to suit it, then finish with a thorough rinse down.

Manchester & Cheshire Cherry Picker Hire

Safe access at height

To clean roofs properly and safely, we use a cherry picker supplied by Manchester & Cheshire Cherry Picker Hire. It lets our operatives reach the roof edge, ridge and gable ends from a stable platform, without ladders resting on your tiles or gutters.
