It's one of the most common questions we get asked, and the honest answer is: it depends on where you live, what your windows face, and how much you notice the difference. That said, most homes across the Northwest settle into the same rhythm. For the vast majority of properties, that rhythm is every four weeks.

Why 4-weekly has become the standard

Windows don't get dirty in a straight line. Rain carries dust and pollution onto the glass, frames pick up grime from passing traffic, and in the first week or two after a clean you'd struggle to notice much difference at all. It's usually somewhere between three and five weeks that the build-up starts becoming visible: a light haze on the glass, streaks where rain has dried, cobwebs gathering in the frame corners.

A 4-weekly round hits that sweet spot. It's frequent enough that windows never get properly dirty, so each clean is quick and straightforward, and predictable enough that you can build it into your routine. That's exactly why we run our residential rounds on a 4-weekly schedule, with a text reminder the day before so you're never caught out.

What actually affects how often you need it

  • Location. A property near a main road, a building site, or under overhanging trees will collect grime faster than a quiet cul-de-sac.
  • Weather exposure. South and west-facing windows tend to take the brunt of wind-driven rain, which is often the biggest single cause of streaking.
  • Nearby greenery. Trees and hedges close to windows mean more pollen, sap and leaf debris landing on the glass.
  • How much it bothers you. Some people are perfectly happy with a slight haze; others notice a single water spot from across the room. There's no wrong answer here, it's genuinely about what you're comfortable with.

Signs your windows are overdue

A few give-aways that it's been too long since your last clean: a grey or hazy film across the glass that doesn't wipe off with a cloth, visible streak marks after rain, cobwebs or dead insects collecting in the frame corners, and, the big one, sills and frames looking dirtier than the glass itself. Frames and sills often get overlooked, but they're usually the first place grime shows.

What about commercial properties?

Businesses tend to need a slightly different approach. A busy shopfront on a high street might benefit from weekly or fortnightly cleans simply because first impressions matter every single day, while an office block with less street-level glass might be perfectly well maintained on a monthly or even quarterly schedule. If you're weighing this up for a commercial site, our services page covers how we tailor commercial schedules, or you can get in touch and we'll talk it through.

The bottom line

If you're not sure where to start, every 4 weeks is a safe, well-tested default for most homes in the Northwest. It's the schedule the vast majority of our 1,000+ regular customers are on, and it's the one we'd recommend if you're setting up a round for the first time.
